Re: This story doesn't have a title (sorry)
“I guess that’s a yes then.” René chirped.
“Where do you wanna go?” Vince asked
“The Ponderosas’ right there.” I offered.
“Can’t. I took a sick day to come tonight.” René said, sheepishly.
“Chile’s then?” Blake offered.
“Works for me,” René squeaked
“Us too.” Jake and José said in unison.
“Let’s go.” I said with a smile. Blake grabbed my hand and we all walked out of the theater together.
Dinner was filled with tons and tons of laughter. After a couple of hours of talking and chewing we split the check, in a way that José was also paid for. Along with some minor kissing from everyone, every one had a blast. Every one headed home around 11 p.m. Jake gave José a ride home, they lived a block away from each other; or so they said. René had offered Vince a ride but since he and Blake were neighbors he went with Blake and me instead.
The following Monday morning was just as boring as any other. Danni, Sam, Jake, Vince, René, Blake, and I all had our second mod class together. That was English. We had the most boring, monotone, teacher we could ever possibly have. Mr. Mayers. His classes always seemed to last for days rather than ninety minutes like they were supposed to. About three minutes before class ended that day this strange, kinda chubby, girl knocked on the door. Obviously Shanna opened the door; she was always way too enthusiastic in the morning. Mr. Mayers looked up. “Oh. Right,” he said, more to him self than outwardly to the class. “Class we have a new student; her name is Elizabeth… uh…”
“Uley,” the girl provided.
“Yes, that’s it. This is Elizabeth Uley,” he started again. The class all started to say ‘Hi,’ because that’s what the teachers still had them do. As soon as the ‘hi’ reached our lips the bell rang and they all leapt out of their seats in a mad dash to the door, thankful to get out of the class.
“Bye Elizabeth,” René added sarcastically as she exited the room by my side.
We all grouped up with our boyfriends and girlfriends, all except Jake because José’s not in English with us, and headed to our next classes. That’s when I saw Jake run over to catch up with Elizabeth. I told Blake that I had to go to the bathroom and to go to his class with out me. He was a little reluctant but let me go. I followed the way that Jake went and caught up to them far enough away that they couldn’t see me but that I could hear them.
“Hi, I’m Jake.”
“Elizabeth Uley; nice to meet you.”
“Ya know, if you need a tour of the school I’d be happy to help.”
“Thank you. Not many people would go out of their way to help out the new girl.”
“I’m not ‘many people’.”
“I guess you’re not.”
“Would you like to come to dinner with me on Friday?”
“I’d like that.”
I could not believe my ears. Jake was flirting with that Uley girl! What could I do? I was too far away and even if I was closer I wouldn’t have been able to do some thing with out Jake finding out that I was spying. Just then I, literally, ran into René coming from the right hallway.
“I don’t like her,” René snapped as soon as we were both back on our feet.
“Why not? She seamed nice,” I didn’t know how much René saw and I didn’t want to be the one to tell her.
“I don’t trust her. Plus I’ve never liked new kids.”
“Hey! I was a new kid once.”
“So, you’re the exception.”
“Thank you. I think we should at least give her a chance.”
René, actually, paused. I think she was really thinking about it for a second; she wasn’t the kind of girl that was easily swayed. Just then, like two seconds after René gave me her nod of approval, Jake and Elizabeth walked by like they were duct taped together.
“Chance blown!” Rene nearly shouted my ear off.
“He didn’t even look up,” I slowly realized, “What if we were José- Omigod José!”
“I say we rat Jake out!” René whispered, over excitedly into my ear as she started pulling my arm away with her.
“No, maybe we’re just missing some thing logical… that would make this O Kay.”
“Are you for real?! They looked they were taped together!”
“Yes. If we see them like this again then we tell José. Deal?”
She took in a deep breath and, reluctantly, stuck out her hand and said, “Deal.”
“Where do you wanna go?” Vince asked
“The Ponderosas’ right there.” I offered.
“Can’t. I took a sick day to come tonight.” René said, sheepishly.
“Chile’s then?” Blake offered.

The bell rang and we headed to class. Anxiously I sat through health class, why I did not take it sooner I had no idea. But as soon as the fourth mod bell rang I was at Jake’s side as soon as he came out of his class.
“Jake, I need to talk to you.”
“What about? Why all the hostility?”
“I think you know what this is about.”
“I really have no clue.”
“Really…? René and I saw you with Elizabeth after class.”
“And…?”
“You two were VERY close.”
“I can do whatever I want.”
“What if José saw you and not us?! He’d be crushed!”
“Well he didn’t see so it’s not a problem now. But, if he does I’ll talk to him. He’ll under stand.”
“That’s what you think! He trusted you enough to tell you his feelings; if you jeopardize his trust you will be seeing me again!”
“Is that a threat?” Jake asked trying to challenge my thoughts.
“You know it is!” I shot back so fast, I swear, I saw him go pale. As I was storming off to lunch I saw José coming past me.
“Hey Lilly.”
“Hi José. I can’t talk now I gotta get to class,” I said, not stopping. I couldn’t tell but I think I was still ‘controlled-yelling.’
“O Kay, I’ll see you later then,” he said a bit shaken by my hostility; I wasn’t usually like that. I still didn’t stop.
After I had cooled down at lunch I started to head back to class, it was still too early for the teacher to start but sometimes she liked to tell stories. That’s when I saw Elizabeth walking with her head down. She sounded like she was crying.
“Elizabeth? What’s the matter?”
“Jake is gay!”
“Yeah…”
“And he has a boyfriend!”
“Yep, they’ve been goin out for a good week now.”
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
“Nobody knew you liked him, I swear. Otherwise we would have told you,” I tried to reassure her.
“Why, do you think, René seamed to want to get Jake in trouble.”
“That’s only because she doesn’t like new girls,” I shrugged.
“That’s not very positive,” Elizabeth observed.
“That’s just the way she is.” We stopped talking for a bit as we walked down the hall way. “I have an idea; me and a couple friends are gonna have a sleepover at my house tonight. You can come too if you want.”
“I’d like that, thank you,” she said, like she genuinely appreciated it.
I took out a scrap of paper from my bag and a pen from behind my ear and started scribbling. “Here’s my address. Be there at 8; O Kay.”
“Yeah, thanks. Bye.”
“Bye.”
My fourth mod class had first lunch that day. On top of all that was going on with new-girl-drama and every thing I forgot my lunch so I had to stand in the hot lunch line. Eww I remembered Cafeteria food! Of all days to forget my lunch it had to be on macaroni and cheese day. It’s, like, totally made of plastic! Plus it bounces! So I am standing in the lunch line when I feel a pair of arms wrap around me. I prayed to god that it was either Blake or one of my friends.
“Hey, babe,” Blake’s voice came from behind me.
He loosened his grip so that I could turn around to face him. “Hey.”
“You know your birthday’s comin up soon.”
He remembered, I thought as I walked over to the milk fridge. “It is,” I mused.
“Well?”
“Well what?” I asked as we got in line to pay for our “meal.”
“Do you want anything special?”
“Well I’ve already got you. What else could I possibly want?” I was having fun messing with him like this as we walked to a table.
“You tell me.” I could tell that I was killing him on the inside.
“I’m sure whatever you get me will be perfect.” I tried to assure him in a matter-of-fact way, but I didn’t think it was working, and then we sat down.
“You trust me that much to make this decision by myself.”
“Yes, why wouldn’t I?”
“People tend to want to give me specified instructions.”
“Why, whatever for?” I asked in a sarcastic old-time-movie-star way.
“Ha, ha. You’re real funny”
“I know.” I tried to stifle a giggle but I do not think I held it in very well. Blake shot me a playful glare. “You know you love me,” I said as I put my hand on his fore arm.
“Auh huh,” he says as he steals a French fry from my tray.
“Oh, babe, I gotta go,” I pushed the rest of the fries his way, “I have a guidance appointment; three minutes ago.”
“I’ll see you at rehearsal then?”
“Yeah, yeah.” I kissed him on the top of his head and fast walked out of the cafeteria.
After my fourth period class I met up with Blake in the hall.
“Do you want a ride home after rehearsal today?”
“Would we be heading straight home?” I tried to hint that I wanted to do some thing that was not going home but Blake didn’t quite get it.
“Yep.”
“That’s too bad.” I said in an, attempted, sexy voice, “I was hoping we could talk somewhere. Alone.”
“I don’t have anywhere to be so going somewhere else is fine with me.” I still did not think he was getting it.
“Great; I’ll meet you in the parking lot at four thirty.”
“Ye-es you will,” he said in a way that I knew he got it now.
Blake came to our AP Biology class, like, ten or fifteen minutes late. It was really weird, he was hardly ever late for class; mainly because, in the classes we had together, we arrived together. When he got in the class room he tripped over his own feet and had trouble pulling out his chair.
“Sorry I’m late,” he apologized to Mr. L.
“Have a seat Mr. Summers.” Mr. L.’s not usually an impatient guy but Blake was making a pretty big scene.
“What took you so long?” I asked in a whisper.
“My…um err locker was… jammed?”
“Oh-er, O Kay.”
At this point René ran into the door way and skidded to a stop. I think she was even starting to cry! “Mr. L. Can I see Lilly Johnson please?”
“May I ask what for?” Mr. L. said looking at René suspiciously.
“It’s a-a a personal matter.” She says, now balling.
“Lilly you may go. And bring some Tissues with you.” I was getting up to leave and I could swear that I saw Blake getting up too. And I guess I did because Mr. L. said, “Stay here Mr. Summers.”
“But-” Blake started.
“Sit!” Mr. L. barks so Blake obeyed and I leave the room with out looking back.
“René! What the hell do you think you’re doing?! You can’t just pull me out of class like that!” I shouted.
René pulled out her compact to re-apply her make-up. “Will you shut up? You don’t want to cause a scene.”
“Me? Cause a scene? You just pulled me out of class balling and you’re worried about me making a scene?!”
“I pulled you out of class to tell you that your life is practically over and this is the thanks I get?! Huh!” René turned and walked away down the hall. I had to chase after her.
“What are you talking about? You are such a drama queen!” I was squeaking because I couldn’t raise my voice, classes were still going on. “Wait- what do you mean my ‘life is practically over’?”
“You will never guess what I just saw,” René always started her most elaborate stories like this.
“What?”
“You know that thing that just moved here? It tried to put the moves on your man!” She started to tear up, “and to think…you found it in your heart to give her a second chance. It’s just… it’s just so awful!”
“René what happened? Exactly as you saw it.”
“Well I was about to meet Vince in the band room when I saw Elizabeth kissing Blake!”
“Blake would nev-”
“Let me finish.” She interrupted my thought process, “Blake pulled away and she was all ‘What the hell!’ and he said ‘I’ve got a girl friend’ and she was like ‘What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her!’ Now, by this point, I was about ready to smack that- girl, but I wanted to see how Blake handled it.”
“Annnndd…”
“He went to class and I got you. Oh, after she gave him some lame sob-story on how you’re her only friend and that he couldn’t tell you what happened or you’d hate her and she wouldn’t have any friends at all.”
“Oh, ho! That bitch is gonna get it! Let me at ‘err!”
“No, don’t do that!”
“And why the hell not?!”
“Because if you do Blake will know you found out and Elizabeth will think that you don't want to be her friend.”
“And that's a problem?”
“No, but if you're gonna break her do it when you two are buddy-buddy.” Then she added, more as an after thought, “That way she won't suspect a thing.”
“René, you are so mean! I love you.”
“I know.” She started to walk me back to my class room. “Oh, and don’t forget to cry!”
I started walking into the class room with like twenty tissues in my face.
“What was that about?” Blake seemed really concerned.
“Oh, it's nothing. We straightened it all out.”
“Please tell me; I tell you everything.”
“Everything?” I asked, doubtfully. Then the bell rang, I got up and gathered my stuff stopping Blake when he offered. “I’ll see you after rehearsal,” I said then stormed off down the hall and around the corner.
“Jake, I need to talk to you.”
“What about? Why all the hostility?”
“I think you know what this is about.”
